It's my great pleasure to share that Gandaki International Pvt Ltd. is joint venture company engaged in honey business & apiculture development of Nepal. Gandaki International is probably only one company in Nepal who implement commercial beekeeping development programme all over the country with poverty reduction and environment conservation objectives. Considering the ecological & biological diversity. Nepal is recognized as one of the most potential country for massive scale beekeeping and honey production. In spite of it we are unable to harness available opportunities. Various line agencies are also engaged in beekeeping development and promotion in Nepal but due to their limit pragmatic knowledge and short project period most of line agencies are unable to achieve their objectives. Nepal government has declared honey sub sector as major thrust area for export potential goods under Trade Policy and Nepal Trade Integration Strategy (NTIS 2010). Taking into consideration of its future prosperity honey sub sector development and promotion programme should be launched focusing on commercial scale production and international marketing rather than sustainable production and limited domestic market. We strongly feel that beekeeping development program should be implemented under public private partnership ( PPP) module. The role of private sector should be dynamic. The reason behind is that “a person who wears shoes knows where the shoe pinches”.

Taking into account of the growing population, unemployment, dwindling of arable land, demand of nutritious food, and low level of technical know-how the beekeeping programme is recognized as the most appropriate, promising and sustainable programme sector for poverty reduction and environmental sustainability in Nepal. Gandaki International Pvt Ltd welcome any line agencies and stakeholders who are interested in launching joint venture beekeeping development and promotion programme under cost sharing basis.
